Botox/Dysport
Botox/Dysport
is a purified form of botulinim toxin. When injected in
small amounts into a specific muscle, it blocks the receptors that
allow nerve impulses to stimulate muscle contraction. By blocking these
receptors, the facial muscles that cause wrinkles can be relaxed, thus
softening and preventing lines. Over the years, repeated squinting and
frowning can lead to the development of frown lines, crows feet, and
horizontal forehead lines which can make a person look perpetually
angry or sad and can contribute to an aged appearance. Consequently,
these areas are the most popular areas for treatment.
Botox/Dysport
injections are minimally painful and are performed quickly with little
recovery time. Side effects are rare, and are usually the
result of the injection itself and not the toxin. Transient soreness,
headache, and bruising may sometimes occur. The effect usually takes 3
to 14 days to become noticeable, as the muscles become relaxed. Effects
last an average of 3/6 months, though with regular treatments, duration
may increase due to some atrophy of the targeted muscles.
Botox/Dysport
is an extremely safe treatment, with a track record of over 20 years in
use for ophthalmologic and neurological disorders prior to its current
use for cosmetic indications. It is also one of our most
popular cosmetic procedures in terms of patient satisfaction.
Wrinkle Treatment
The aging process leads to loss of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid,
and fat in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. This loss of volume and
support leads to the formation of wrinkles, furrows, and folds. We now
have several filler substances which can be used to restore a more
youthful appearance. CosmoPlast and CosmoDerm are collagen products
derived from a human cell line, and do not require skin testing prior
to treatment. Correction with collagen usually lasts between 3 and 6
months. Collagen products may be used in the lips, smile lines, lines
around the mouth, forehead lines, and marionette lines (lines between
the mouth and chin
Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid gels. Hyaluronic
acid is a complex sugar normally found in our skin. These products are
non-animal based and do not require skin testing. Correction usually
lasts 6-9 months on non-lip areas and 4-6 months in the lips. These
products can be used in lips, smile lines, marionette lines, cheeks,
and cheek hollows.
Radiesse is the newest and most long-lasting filler. It is composed of
calcium hydroxylapetite microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The
microspheres form a scaffold that supports and stimulates new collagen
formation. Radiesse may be used in the smile lines and marionette lines
and may also be used for cheek augmentation and filling of cheek
hollows. Generally, 2 treatment sessions 8 weeks apart are required for
optimal correction. Effects last up to 18 months. Radiesse is
non-animal based, non-allergenic, and very safe.
Temporary side effects of treatment with any filler can include
swelling, bruising, and redness. Swelling is usually more pronounced
with lip augmentation. We recommend treatment late in the week to allow
for healing and recovery over the weekend
Lip Augmentation
Dermal fillers, such as collagen and Restylane can be used to add
volume to lips which are thin due to heredity or natural aging.
Treatment results last from 3 to 12 months, depending on the product
used. All treatments are performed by the physician. Cost is determined
by number of syringes used.
